I worked at Mariscal Abogados for three invaluable months (March-May 2021). As a Spanish and French student in my year abroad from the University of Exeter, I applied to this firm to gain experience in an international law firm. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here, which has confirmed my interest in a legal career.

Even though my experience took place remotely due to Covid-19, I believe it was a success, as the team was extremely helpful and always provided me with challenging but interesting work. It allowed me to carry out a wide range of tasks, such as completing translations, reviewing legal documents, and researching Spanish legal news. A particular achievement was writing a legal article for the firm which was published on their website. Mariscal Abogados, therefore, allowed me to gain and enhance skills such as time management, teamwork, organisation, communication, and research to help prepare me for a career in law. I also thoroughly enjoyed working within the real estate, employment, energy, and corporate sectors, which gave me a real insight into these sectors.

Another reason to choose this firm was to improve my Spanish language skills, particularly in the legal sector. This was a great place to do so as the lawyers spoke several languages and gave me the opportunity to speak Spanish through regular Teams meetings. Translating between Spanish and English improved my legal knowledge and made me confident in the multi-language work I hope to be doing in my future career.

Thank you Mariscal Abogados for the opportunity to work at your firm and a special thanks to Laura Bernat, who guided me through my time within the firm. The experience was incredible, despite working from home, and I would highly recommend it to any students seeking opportunities in international law.
