New Law for the promotion of the employment stability in Spain

Entry into force of the Royal Decree Law 16/2013 of December 20 on measures to promote stable hiring and improve the employability of workers:

On Saturday, December 21, 2013, after the Council of Ministers of December 20, the Spanish Legal Bulletin (BOE) published the Royal Decree Law 16/2013 on measures to promote stable hiring and improve the employability of workers.

The Law introduced a series of amendments to the Spanish Workers’ Statute to make part-time employment contracts more flexible. Among other changes, the Law eliminated the possibility for part-time workers to work extra hours except in cases of repair or prevention of damage of an extraordinary or urgent nature. Furthermore, the extra-hours plan changed: the number of hours increased while the notice for its completion decreased
